Raising awareness

The Census 2000 Road Tour was in Mid-Missouri this weekend to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of participating in the census, and to motivate all people living in the United States to answer it.

The crew -- Reisha Phills, New York City; Mike Erkmann, Durango, Colo.; John Fortney, Atlanta; and Cencio "The Census" dog -- stopped at the Capitol and Capital Mall. The 28-foot motor-home-style vehicle contains exhibits, in five languages, illustrating the main reasons for completing the census forms, census fact sheets and a children's activity corner.

A total of 12 Road Tour vehicles were sent out a month ago to make appearances at county fairs, ethnic festivals, St. Patrick's Day parades and opening day festivities for Major League Baseball teams.
